“Work Smarter, Not Harder”

Work-smartlyYou often get to hear people saying, “If I had more time for this, I must have …blah, blah, blah.” They ignore the fact, having more time does not mean more can be done. Just hard work does not pays; you need to be intelligent enough to make things work out for yourself.

According to a research study conducted by Priority Management, managers spend up to three hours a day on average dealing with interruptions. Recognizing the trait of time management is half the battle. If your dawdling attitude is keeping you from getting your work done efficiently, here I have wrapped up my experienced tips on well management and increasing productivity.

Step#1

Deal with your Zeal:

For me this all time management stuff is actually about energy. You cannot add more hours in a day, but try to distribute your energy in a way that you work with the same dedication for all your tasks.

Step # 2

Know how to say “NO”:

If you say yes to everyone regarding everything, you can easily be bogged down. It is often better to do five things right then doing 10 things terribly.

Step # 3

Place big rocks in first:

Always prioritize the most profitable tasks, which are of great importance to your business. If you do not put your big rocks in first, the fillers of life will take up your day and you will not fit your big rocks in at all.

Step # 4

Focus on your golden nuggets:

Some tasks relatively take more effort but have large impact or high visibility. Do not hesitate and boldly step forward to get hold of your golden nuggets.

Step # 5

Get done with small tasks coming your way:

If you have, a task coming your way, which is going to take a few minutes to complete, do not put it in pending. This way you will get the small things out of the way and not need to think about them.

Step # 6

Make the most of your creative time:

Remember the 80% / 20% rule; sometimes 20% of your time accomplishes 80% of the work. Most folks have some specific time at which they are most creative. It could be mornings, afternoons or late night when deliver your best. Try to get your most important tasks done during that time.

Step # 7

Discourage drop-in meetings:

Sometimes you are working in your high energy, but in between if you have to quit your work and drop in somewhere; it distracts your working mood and takes away a lot of your precious time.

Step # 8

Listen to drum beat:

Tackle the hot happenings around and give an important portion of your time focusing on current topics regarding your industry rather than wasting your time on cold or stale tasks.

Step # 9

Uninterrupted Down time:

During a hectic workday, make it a point to spare some time to re-energize and regroup. Avail uninterrupted mid-morning and lunch breaks, so you can refuel your self to get back to work.

Step # 10

Set Smart Goals:

Another important time management tip is to set SMART goals. Smart means working on rewarding, achieving and profitable tasks, so in the end you feel proud for your flourishing business.

Okay, that is probably plenty to digest but these points must have made you come up with lists saying “To Do”, “Action Items”, or some similar verbs.
If you think I have skipped on some important secrets to time management, do send in a feedback.
