10 Tips to the Success of Working at Home Moms – A Tough Job:

                  Working-Home-Mom

Trend of making money from a home business, is growing at a phenomenal pace around the world. The beauty and the charm of working from home might look like an ideal business but let me make a clarification here; the task is not that easy, especially for the moms working from home.

Women working from home, who are taking care of young children, have the biggest fear of loosing momentum. Therefore, I made an effort to search few productivity tips but I swear it was not that easy because general tips for home workers are simply not applicable for mothers.

Still, I brainstormed and tried to short list a few tips, which can prove to be helpful and productive. Let us check them:

  • Build your working schedule with a To–Do–List, so you have a clear vision of your daily tasks.
  • Make you family members, friends and neighbors respect your working timings.
  • Identify the pockets of time when you can work with minimal distraction, it could be any part of the day, timings doesn’t matter.
  • Nap times of the kids are the chunks for working moms. During these hours try to do multi tasking because you can concentrate on several things free mindedly.
  • Deal with your minor family concerns before you get started with your work and clarify them what counts for an emergency to distract you.
  • Prepare to hang tough. Discourage phone calls with a prepared response, like “I will call you after four o’clock today.”
  • Set up a play corner in your house with safe toys to keep your kids busy when they are awake. This can minimize your disruptions.
  • Buy a laptop and cell phone and subscribe to a Wi-Fi Internet connection, so you could work in your kitchen, backyard, playroom, baby’s room, even in the playground.
  • Build short breaks in your schedule when you need to give your child complete concentration.
  • Finally yet importantly, don’t forget to spend quality time with your children so their needs for attention and love are being met.

I hope all these tips help the working moms out there but still I would advice them to testify their commitment and potential because work-at-home option is not favorable for everyone. Give some time to yourself, to find out how well you can manage working from home along with all the distractions.

Do let me know, if my guidelines and advice helped you in any way.

Best of Luck! Hope you achieve your goals.

“Work Smarter, Not Harder”

Work-smartlyYou often get to hear people saying, “If I had more time for this, I must have …blah, blah, blah.” They ignore the fact, having more time does not mean more can be done. Just hard work does not pays; you need to be intelligent enough to make things work out for yourself.

According to a research study conducted by Priority Management, managers spend up to three hours a day on average dealing with interruptions. Recognizing the trait of time management is half the battle. If your dawdling attitude is keeping you from getting your work done efficiently, here I have wrapped up my experienced tips on well management and increasing productivity.

Step#1

Deal with your Zeal:

For me this all time management stuff is actually about energy. You cannot add more hours in a day, but try to distribute your energy in a way that you work with the same dedication for all your tasks.

Step # 2

Know how to say “NO”:

If you say yes to everyone regarding everything, you can easily be bogged down. It is often better to do five things right then doing 10 things terribly.

Step # 3

Place big rocks in first:

Always prioritize the most profitable tasks, which are of great importance to your business. If you do not put your big rocks in first, the fillers of life will take up your day and you will not fit your big rocks in at all.

Step # 4

Focus on your golden nuggets:

Some tasks relatively take more effort but have large impact or high visibility. Do not hesitate and boldly step forward to get hold of your golden nuggets.

Step # 5

Get done with small tasks coming your way:

If you have, a task coming your way, which is going to take a few minutes to complete, do not put it in pending. This way you will get the small things out of the way and not need to think about them.

Step # 6

Make the most of your creative time:

Remember the 80% / 20% rule; sometimes 20% of your time accomplishes 80% of the work. Most folks have some specific time at which they are most creative. It could be mornings, afternoons or late night when deliver your best. Try to get your most important tasks done during that time.

Step # 7

Discourage drop-in meetings:

Sometimes you are working in your high energy, but in between if you have to quit your work and drop in somewhere; it distracts your working mood and takes away a lot of your precious time.

Step # 8

Listen to drum beat:

Tackle the hot happenings around and give an important portion of your time focusing on current topics regarding your industry rather than wasting your time on cold or stale tasks.

Step # 9

Uninterrupted Down time:

During a hectic workday, make it a point to spare some time to re-energize and regroup. Avail uninterrupted mid-morning and lunch breaks, so you can refuel your self to get back to work.

Step # 10

Set Smart Goals:

Another important time management tip is to set SMART goals. Smart means working on rewarding, achieving and profitable tasks, so in the end you feel proud for your flourishing business.

Okay, that is probably plenty to digest but these points must have made you come up with lists saying “To Do”, “Action Items”, or some similar verbs.
If you think I have skipped on some important secrets to time management, do send in a feedback.

Focus sharply or you’ll loose the game

working from home

“When I do not work in an everyday office, I get lazy and procrastinate about things that have to get done.”
You often hear such statements from employees working from home. List of distracting things while working is endless and if you are a home based employee, then you are at a higher risk of loosing focus. After all, working from home means you have to manage multiple priorities at the same time, e.g. keeping an eye on your kids, attending unexpected guests and such other uninvited tasks.

Focus, is not something that automatically switches on, you need to have peaceful surroundings to get your work done. Here, I have short-listed a few effective ways to keep you organized and productive without sacrificing the quality of your business.

Set boundaries:

It is very important to set boundaries between your work and other responsibilities. Plan a time to start work in the morning, a time for lunch (and not a working lunch in front of your computer), and a time to end your workday.

Fix deadlines and time limits:

Before beginning with a new project fix a time limit with yourself, within which you have to get it done.

Plan ahead:

Think short-term – analyze your projects and get things planned for the following days.

Take short breaks:

Everyone has recurring lazy spots throughout the day, try to have breaks during those timings, but remember less long breaks = more productivity. Do you agree here?

Break the tasks into small actions:

Cut down your big tasks into small ones, for instance, if you have to renovate your dining room, try breaking it down into many tasks, like “buy chairs, buy curtains and pick colors” etc.

Keep a steady pace:

Do not try to do many things at the same time; it can lead to big confusions and blunders.

Use offline tools:

Physical tools like pen and paper products are a godsend for those of us who have a hard time focusing throughout the workday. They are simple and speedy without being distracting.

List your prior assignments:

Use a moleskin notebook to list your vital tasks and review it every now and again, to see how much are you done with.
Keep in mind, doing non-creative; repetitive, mindless tasks may not demand your focus but if you are a web worker like me who uses the Internet for the majority of the day, these tips will definitely get you working.

Do not forget telling me if my guidelines really saved you :)
